Gotta Glow: A Beyonce Inspired Make Up Look

Dear beauties,

How are you girls doing? It's September already and I hope it's gonna be very nice to me :)

Lately I felt so overwhelmed with my energizer bunny a.k.a. my daughter, It's been a while since I posted my last inspired make up, probably it was in June, so I thought it would be a good start if I create another one in the first September post. And the inspiration goes to...

Beyonce. In case you don't know :p
Yes, Beyonce, that diva! I wouldn't tell you how much I loved her voice since she was in Destiny's Child (and my most favorite Brown Eyes at that moment), but I also admire her look and her glowing, sun-kissed make up. As I feel more alike to Beyonce rather than to the K-Pop gank, and accidentally I found a grab-and-go outfit that resembles Beyonce's signature style, so be it!

ALERT: Sorry for the low resolutions pictures below. I found it's impossible for me to create make up look during the day (because I am working) and during the day in weekend (because my daughter is so possessive), so apparently I only would have time before sleep :(

BASE:

Put on your favorite liquid foundation that will give you a dewy finish. There's nothing wrong with excess oil if you want to create a glowing look like Beyonce's. But, don't forget to prime and prep before applying foundation, to make it lasts longer, and set with your favorite loose powder to make it stays on place. Please be reminded to use your exact color or one shade darker, as you want to have a sun-kissed make up rather than Bella Swan's look in Twilight.

EYES:

First of all, let's have a conclusion that Beyonce always wearing a natural eye make up, but with noticeable shimmer. Even though sometimes she had smokey-eyes, but the color remains very neutral. As I was creating this look at night, so I prefer to make it smokier than just natural eyes. The color that I put on my lid was mostly gold/bronze and shimmer peach, but I used a dark blue color on the crease, instead of taupe or chocolate. Put on the black eyeliner to sharpen your eyes, and don't forget to apply a single stroke of brown eyeshadow on the outer waterline, continue with the lightest shimmery shade on the inner corner. Add falsies.

CHEEKS:

This part was the most interesting, as you may put a lot of bronzer on the apple of your cheeks after contouring your face.Don't be afraid because we want to show off that glow!

After bronzer, you may also need to apply highlighter on the upper cheekbones and under eyes area. Highlighter is very useful to reflect the light and create a natural glow. You can see the instant difference on before and after tapping some highlighter on some parts of your face.

LIPS:

Well, Beyonce is known for her wild and chic personality. Although most of the times Beyonce is wearing a nude lipstick, but adding a brighter and braver color is not a sin. So, this is the time to wear on bold lipstick (besides bold lipstick is really really happening now). You can choose either dark red, dark purple or burgundy.

...and VOILA!

Final look. And oh, this look is also wearable for day, just change the lipstick into coral.

This is the result that I made last night. Pretty alike, eh, except for the blonde hair. Sorry, feel hesitate to color my hair since I am proud enough with black :)

What do you think of this look?
I hope you enjoy and already feel 'glowing' today. Have a nice Wednesday! ~xoxo~

Trend Warna Sariayu 2014 - Inspirasi Borneo: Swatches & Review

When a pretty green box came to my door this week, I was totally excited. It was in April when I posted and reviewed two pinkish lipsticks from Sariayu (see my review here), but this time I attempted to try all four lipsticks from Inspirasi Borneo, its latest 2014 Color Trend, collection. Moreover, I also could see-touch-wear the newly-invented mousse foundation from Sariayu for the first time, which reminds me a lot to my favorite Maybelline's. Didn't skip even for 24 hours to try these cuties out!

Eco-inspired green box
As you already knew that Sariayu, one of our biggest cosmetic companies in Indonesia who has exported the products to some of our neighbor countries, releases the Color Trend each year. This year, the colors are inspired from Borneo, ancient name of Kalimantan island. Dayak is the major tribe who lives there.

Slight information: Dayak tribe is a tribe that had great respect for nature. they are always protecting the environment. Dayak tribe always protect the forest wealth in the form of plants and animals as well as possible.Dayak tribe has a very beautiful traditional clothes. Pattern typical Dayak tribes who formed an array of colorful beads adorn the sharp contrast of black cloth, which used as a base for traditional clothes Dayak. So that shows the meaning of the Dayak tribe with the wise use of nature in everyday life.

Insipirasi Borneo full range: Mousse Foundation, Lipstick, Eyeshadow Trio, Marshmallow Blush-On
By looking at the range that they provided, Sariayu has successfully interpreted the Dayak into its color selections. You can see from the three eyeshadows trio that they have below.

Eyeshadow Trio:
(left to right: Borneo-03, Borneo-02, Borneo-01)
Borneo-01 Coelogyne Marthae consists of dark purple, coral and lime green.
Borneo-02 Manik Banuaka consists of baby pink, electric blue and yellow.
Borneo-03 Tikar Badai consists of light beige, brown and brownish black

I used to be a fan of smokey eyeshadows so based on my preference, i would obviously pick Borneo-03 as my most favorite. But this time, the one that attracted me most is Borneo-01. Why? Because it was said that the colors are taken from Coelogyne Marthae, an orchid species found in Sarwak Borneo on lower tree trunks in flooded heath forests at elevations of 50 to 300 meters.

So beautiful, isn't it?
Sariayu's interpretation on Coelogyne Marthae
Inspired from above picture, I was really keen to apply those products on my own. I applied the purple on eyelid, bold and deep, so that I didn't need to use eyeliner anymore. I applied the second layer above with the coral one, then the green lightly for highlight at the upper lid. Here's the result:

I am using Borneo-01
The pigmentation is holy great! One swipe each and you get the color. For this trial, I used Bare Minerals Prime Time Eye Primer as base. This primer is not really good compare to Too Faced Shadow Insurance, but the color still showed up :) With the low price tag, you would never go wrong to purchase these eyeshadows. The only one downside is the packaging. No matter how I love the design with beautiful printed cultural attributes that representing Borneo, the plastic packaging makes me feel worried and extra careful not to drop this because it will be easily broken.

Pigmentation: A

(Overall rating: 3.9/5.0)

Mousse Foundation:

Hello, Maybelline. This one is potential to be your rival! The mousse foundation looks like Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse, but smaller and a lot lighter since the packaging made by plastic that makes this easy to carry and travel-friendly. Unlike Maybelline, this mousse foundation only comes in 2 shades: Light and Natural. Don't get caught by the color in the pan, it looks so dark that even I thought I would be suitable wearing Light. But, when I applied to my face, Light is true to its name. It's too light for my medium skin. For you whose skin is in the range of NC20-NC30, this one is perfect color for you. This also has a very strong yellow undertone, like any other regular foundation and powder products of Sariayu (which understandable because most of Indonesian women are having yellowish skin tone)

Left: Light; Right: Natural

Meanwhile, the Natural seems too dark and scary in the pan. It looks like darkest beige leaning to brown. But again, don't judge the color from outside. Because after I applied, the color wasn't that brown on skin. This one will suit you who have NC40 skin or above, or NW35 skin and above. Yes, this has neutral undertone which both NC and NW type can use. Including me. I am NW30/NC35 at the moment and I ended up combining these two shades into one to get the most-suited color on my face. And what my take on the product? Although it's not as 'mousse' as Maybelline's texture, but it's still easy to blend. The coverage is superb, it's medium to full. It hides redness, dark circles and heavy acne marks. Another miracle in life when applying foundation only could make me survive without concealer :)

Left: bare face; Right: with Light and Natural combined
Coverage: A
Texture: B
Longevity: B
Packaging: B
Price: $$
(Overall rating: 3.6/5.0)

Finally:
Lipsticks!

This one is my favorite part because I always happy to try out lipsticks! And Sariayu, I think they made huge improvement on their lipsticks nowadays. Besides the wide range of color selections in each of its Color Trend, they also enhanced the quality of the product by adding UV shield as protection and natural moisturizer to prevent lips from dryness.

Let's see how it goes...

(left-right: Borneo-04, Borneo-03, Borneo-02 and Borneo-01)
Borneo-01 (yellow-based medium coral pink)

Borneo-02 (yellow-based bright red)
Borneo-03 (neutral-based light fuchsia)
Borneo-04 (neutral based brownish nude pink)
Color selection:B+
Texture:B+
Longevity: B-
Packaging: B
Price: $
(Overall rating: 3.8/5.0)

Which one is your favorite? As a nude lips extreme, I definitely would pick Borneo-04. But, since I haven't bought any coral pink color for so long, I think my favorite this time is Borneo-01. The color is bright but not too much to wear at the office. My least favorite is Borneo-03, as I often found this kind of color in many other Sariayu lispticks (from previous Color Trends). But overall, for the price around IDR 30k, having 4 lipsticks at the same time is definitely not a sin :)

See you at my next review! ~xoxo~

PS. This is a sponsored review, but review was made based on my trusted opinion. Thanks for Sariayu for sending me the complete range of Inspirasi Borneo.
I loved it so much <3 <3

Make Over Le Secret Fantaisie Launching Event Report (EOTD with the Freebies)

On Tuesday, 20 May 2014, I was attending the Make Over event when they launched the Spring/Summer Make Up Collection called "Le Secret Fantaisie" at the Le Meridien Hotel, Jakarta.

No less than 40 beauty bloggers came (I was too lazy to count exactly :p), and as this was my second event after self-claiming as one of Indonesian beauty bloggers, I was so happy since I met new friends to share the same passion with me. I wasn't being to aggressive since I was quite a newbie, I paid attention to what they're doing and adapting myself (as much as I have to) as they're mostly at they're early twenties or even younger (well, I know how OLD I am now, though they surprisingly thought that I was 22 *play Taylor Swift's song immediately* *bitch-slapped*)

First of all, I loved how Make Over decorated the room and table arrangement. It was very detailed, with a glass jar of lollipops (or candies) with each of our name tag, showing us where to sit. Other words, they were giving us opportunity to get-to-know-stranger, rather than sitting with the-person-that-you-already-know :) The event started with the launching of Spring/Summer make up collection labelled Le Secret Fantaisie, along with the short video that showing the 4 variants of Make Over Trivia Eye Shadow, including 1 lip color. They are (see picture below, from left to right):

Dolly Crush "The Doll" : Feminine pretty charming lovely chic playful adorable dainty
Magical Fairy Tale "The Flamboyant" : Lively fresh whimsical vivid feisty warm vibrant fascinating.
Enchanting Nude Spell "The Lady" : Natural classy elegant simple enchanting ladylike classic sophisticated.
Love At First Sight "The Bombshell" : Glamorous irresistible seductive exquisite mysterious stunning daring bold.

In this event, Make Over also invited Mr. Wilson Eng, a prominent MUA from Singapore. He demonstrated the tutorial using this collection on model.

The result was very sheer soft eye make up but pretty, especially because the model has pale skin. As for me or many Indonesians, it will be a bit hard to apply this kind of look. We should add some more bold colors to make our eyes stand out.

Make Over also held the make up competition and selfie competition to be upload in their Instagram account (@makeoverid) and twitter. I tried to do some experiments during the show, but I am still amateur on eye make up, so the result was disappointing so-so :)

The picture above shows me eye make up using Enchanting Nude Spell "The Lady", the one that most suitable for daily look. Apparently I found that the brown color isn't too intense to fulfill my liking. So, for this shade, I'll pass. This one was included in the freebies that I got after the event.

Yesterday, when I was attending a relative's wedding reception, I tried the other palette that I got from the goodie bag. It is the Magical Fairy Tale "The Flamboyant". I personally hesitate to pick the blue eyeshadow, as I thought it would be contrast with my skin color. But, I found that the 'blue' in this palette is rather pretty and matches to any skin tone.

Last but not least, I enjoyed the event and thanked Make Over for the invitation. Besides bringing home some good new stuff from Make Over, there was also a photo booth so I got 3 pictures with other beauty bloggers. Hey, I feel young! :D

See you soon on the next post ~xoxo~

Sariayu and the Lipsticks that I Fall in Love with

If I had to mention one most inspired entrepreneur woman in Indonesia, I would definitely say: Ibu Martha Tilaar.

I more than just adore her; how she became the successful businesswoman without neglecting the traditional heritage of our culture. She always be consistent to maintain the brand, by keep developing the products from time to time, add the variety of colors and creating the Color Trend every year. And for God sake, she has been doing this since 1987!

Senja di Sriwedari – 1987
Gaya Warna Disainer – 1988
Sumatra Bergaya – 1989
Puri Prameswari – 1990
Senandung Nyiur – 1991
Riwayat Asmat – 1992
Rama-Rama Toraja – 1993
Balada Banda Naira – 1994
Lenggang Betawi – 1995
Aceh Gemilang – 1996
Misteri Dayak – 1997
Pusako Minang -1998
Mentari Pagi Bromo – 1999
Millenium Nusantara – 2000
Taman Air Minahasa – 2001
Kharisma Jogja – 2002
Bunga Khatulistiwa-2003
Paras Nusapada – 2004
Eksotika Bali – 2005
Pelangi Sriwijaya – 2006
Parijs Van Java – 2007
Kilau Martapura – 2008
Cantika Jawa Timur – 2009
Senandung Rimba Sumatra – 2010
Exotic Indonesia – 2011
Etnika Nusa Tenggara – 2012
Pesisir Sentrajava – 2013
Inspirasi Borneo – 2014

The first color trend that I noticed, as long as I can remember, was Pusako Minang, when my Mom bought the eyeshadow and the lipstick. Of course, because we are Minangkabaunese, so no wonder my Mom got attracted to buy the gold+red nuance of the eyeshadow and the lipstick. As an amateur (I was only 17 back then), I sometimes put the gold shadow on my lid before we went out for wedding reception (and yes, the relative's wedding receptions which also were in gold+red atmosphere). And my life continued, I got introduced with Maybelline, Revlon, all drugstore brands during college and now even more interested to MAC and Make Up Forever just because I generally can afford them. Of course not all at once, but at least I tried to purchase 1 high end product every month - this shouldn't be told to my husband :D

So, here the story begins.

I was in Giant for a weekly grocery shopping yesterday and I suddenly bumped into Sariayu counter where my eyes could easily catch the SALE word. Yes, almost all of Sariayu products were on sale. I saw the lipsticks. I got so much disappointment lately in finding a good pink lipstick for my medium-tan skin. Seriously. I bought Maybelline Color Sensational in Pink Me Up, failed. I liked the color for the first swipe but it left my lips dried out even though it supposed to be glossy. Weird texture. I threw it away. I have at least one high end pink lipstick, it's Estee Lauder Pure Color in Fuchsia Fever, but of course, that kind of bright fuchsia is not suitable for daily wear at office. I jumped to Revlon counter afterwards, tried to find the another pink shade. i ended up buying Revlon Super Lustrous in Velvet Rose. Nice. A pinky brown shade that looks so natural on me. Yet, after 1 week using this, I got my lips chapped. Ow great! I used to wear Revlon lipstick in college, around 10 years ago, and my to-go-lipstick was Revlon Super Lustrous in Fleshtone. I didn't experience any bad thing. I started to think: "should I buy another high-end lipstick just for the pink shade, though I normally will prefer brownish shades and warm red lipstick?" Oh, that means I have to cut my budget for a new BB Cream/foundation this month :(

And as you may assume, I stopped by at the counter. I saw many different shades of lipsticks from their old to newest collection; Inspirasi Borneo. I still saw some lipsticks from Cantika Jawa Timur, a color trend in 2009, but as long as it's not expired yet, what's the matter? I once had one eyeshadow from its Reog Collection and it was quite nice despite of the weak packaging.

Cantika Jawa Timur 2009
I personally think that this color trend is very pretty and the shades are matching with my neutral skintone. As my search continues, I asked the beauty advisor (BA) to show me the pink shades that have the tester. She showed me three; Lasem 01 from Pesisir Sentrajava collection, Kelimutu from Etnika Nusa Tenggara collection and Merak Kasmaran 01 from Cantika Jawa Timur collection.

Lasem from Pesisir Sentrajava 2013

Lasem was really bright and hot pink colors. This line is actually very pretty, for those who have porcelain and fairer skin. The pinkish color range is the winner, especially that bold fuchsia lipstick. Not looking good at my skin, of course.

Kelimutu from Etnika Nusa Tenggara 2012

Another pink option comes from Kelimutu line. Of course, the color is more suitable for warmer and darker skin, because the collection name reflects the people of Nusa Tenggara who has tanned-exotic skin. The pink here isn't a real pink. It's leaning towards purple and dark magenta. Another love-hate relationship. Love because the color is too damn nice on my skin, but Hate because it's not kind of pink lipstick that I am looking for. I am looking for a medium regular pink lipstick that is wearable daily. That's it.

Merak Kasmaran 01 from Cantika Jawa Timur 2009

Thus, I tried the latest one, from Merak Kasmaran line. Honestly it didn't look like a medium pink in tube, but once applied, the color is perfect. I said perfect, because it's the warm-toned pink that looks natural on my lips.

I even love its finish, semi-matte. I should say semi-matte because after minutes, the gloss is gone. Yes! And it's pretty long wearing too, unexpectedly. The photograph above looks a bit scary since you may think that's too bright, but let me tell you two things; (1) I was using flash because it was taken at night, (2) I applied 3 coats, meaning if I wanted to have it sheerer, I only need to apply one or two coats. Later I show you my FOTD by using this lippie. And yes, it was SOLD for me.

Sometimes I wonder why woman is not easily satisfied. After got the shade that I wanted, I can't help to control my passion to have some more. SOME more, I wouldn't be kidding you, but considering that I still have stack of lipsticks at home, I decided to buy ONE more only :) My pick goes to...

Karimun Jawa from Pesisir Sentrajava 2013
Karimun Jawa 01. A bold red lipstick that I haven't possessed. If you're familiar with MAC Matte Ruby Woo or Riri Woo, this shade can be said as a dupe.

MAC Riri Woo, the red bold lipstick that gives statement!

Sariayu Karimun Jawa 01

I know that I already own two red lipsticks at home, one is MAC Matte in Chili and the other is Anna Sui Lip Rouge V #460, but still, for me those colors are not true red.

MAC Chili, red leaning to orang-ish terracotta

Anna Sui Lip Rouge V #460, a great framboise color

You can tell, that Karimun Jawa 01 lipstick was also SOLD. Now I am so happy that I could purchase two new lipsticks with only idr 30,000 each! I could buy 9 of them with the budget of 1 MAC Lipstick. So affordable and so relieving :)

The red color can be sheerer than what I wore in this picture, because I applied two coats, and captured the photo using flash.

My overall score for these lipsticks are 3.8 out of 5.0. I only wish that they could stay a little bit longer on lips, and make a more sturdy packaging.
